Dan:

I came across your web site while hoping to find some more information about my uncle Jim Samson.
My uncle I believe worked on the shallow draft tankers between 1929- 1938.  My uncle served on San Nicolas, the Oranjestad and last worked on the Surinam, which, in 1938 was in the ownership of Standard Oil - this may be a tie up with the end of Andrew Weir interest.
I would be very interested in hearing the memories of others. He was a ships engineer and was born in Belfast in 1907.  He returned to Belfast with plans to marry but the war intervened and he left Belfast in 1940 never to return.
I read with much interest the writings of Bill McMaster.  He mentions a man called Jimmy Kerr who was a friend of my uncle and I would welcome adding to my knowledge of him.
