MONEY USED IN ARUBA IN THE 1950's

This is what the money used in Aruba looked like. This is the front and back of the two and a half cent copper coin. Photos supplied by J. Susanne Wirth (Gravendijk). See Bungalow 339

In Aruba it was OK to take a square nickel, that is what they used.

The paper Guilder

Or the silver Guilder.

And you could even get larger silver coins.

Or, if the silver coin was to heavy to carry around you could also get the 21/2 Guilder in paper, printed in a pretty blue.

Or larger demolition bills.

Front and Back of the 25 Guilder bill.

In Lago Colony we used the local Aruba money but we also used club tickets which were good at the Esso Club, the Jr. Esso Club, the Youth Canteen, the Bowling Alley, the bar at the Yacht Club, when it was open, Picnics, the Bar at Lone Palm Stadium, when there was a game.  This was in the form of Club Books and came in 2 Guilder, 5 Guilder, 10 Guilder, 25 Guilder and I believe 50 Guilder Books.  Each book had 5 cent, 10 cent, 25 cent, 50 cent, 1 Guilder tickets.  The 25 and 50 Guilder books may have had larger demolition tickets.  I have only been able to find a 5 cent ticket as a sample.
