On February 13th,
2012, the Aruban artist Armando Goedgedrag visited Aruba’s Minister
Plenipotentiary in The Hague, the Honorable Edwin Abath, to present him
with a painting he made of Aruba’s Shocos (Burrowing Owls, Holenuil,
Athene cunicularia arubensis). He made an appeal for the Shoco to become
Aruba’s National Bird and requested the assistance of the Government of
Aruba to help prevent Aruba’s Shoco from going extinct. Armando is studying in the Netherlands, in Friesland, and travelled to The Hague on his mission, where he was treated with great dignity by the Minister. As is his style, he made a ‘speedpainting film’ of his art in progress and this time he ended his short film with the moment the Minister and his staff receive the painting. He attained support from the band Datapanic, who made one of their songs available for the cause. Armando is a nature lover and is reaching out a hand (and his heart) to help save the Shoco from extinction. There are only an estimated 200 pairs left of this Aruban endemic subspecies. Armando is studying Communication and Multi-Media Design and he is 22 years old. To view the video on You Tube cut and paste the link below to you browser. |
