YET ANOTHER ANCHOR
This came in from Frank Pekary
Hi Dan: The
anchor at Gate 6 reminded me of an encounter with an anchor many years ago and I
just happened to have a photo of that anchor. I was on a barnacle detail on the
Sea Scout tub in the refinery one day and saw it nearby. This anchor does not
look like any that were on the tankers (lake or sea) or the one that ended up at
Gate 6. I have googled "anchors" and found that this design was used in the
late 1800s. So, what was it doing on a refinery dock on Aruba? Was it one of
the anchors that were recovered while recovering some other anchors during those
operations? Is it still on the island, perhaps as a tourist attraction? There
may be a good story that goes along with this anchor that visitors to your web
site would enjoy. The picture was taken in the fall of 59 or spring of 60.

Then he sent another email.
And no, it is not
John Geis's anchor. The one in my picture is much larger than his but has the
same design.

HERE IS THE PICTURE OF THE ANCHOR
THERE SEEMED TO BE SOMETHING WRITTEN ON ONE OF THE FLUTES OF THE ANCHOR SO I
BLEW IT UP AND HERE IT IS.
